Water lapped gently at the sides of Father Booneiam’s boat as he paddled carefully down the Chao Phraya river carrying his precious innovation to the Ayutthaya water market, a new lotion face powder. Father Booneiam was a keen observationist and took note that the chalk powder worn to enhance the complexion of Asian women was not appropriate for the hot humid climate of Thailand. Father Boonaeiam mixed the chalk powder with water to create a new lotion powder and as a result developed a formula that provided women with longer more even coverage than the traditional chalk powder.
This original formula eventually evolved into the Moonlight Face compact and ultimately the famous modern-day Butae’ powders, prized by Thai makeup artists and movie stars. More than sixty years later, Father Booneiam’s simple powder business has flourished into Butae’, an international cosmetics brand with a full line of over 50 skincare and beauty products. Butae’ is a well curated collection of pigmented shades and lightweight moisturizing formulas infused with Thai botanics, designed to enhance a woman’s natural beauty.
